TRaC is back.

As if you didn’t know — the summer Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) program is NOW recruiting for our July/August!

Think about it.  FREE access to NYC art, music, theater and dance, eleven new friends from all backgrounds and boroughs, lively debate, writing, flip-flops, subway adventures, August sunshine, pizza, mini frisbees….

Need we say more??

Sign up now for one or more of 5 special two-day workshops on a first-come, first-served basis.  Anyone in high school is eligible.  Participants will attend a Thursday night performance, write a review, and meet up the following Tuesday for a writing workshop from 4:30pm – 7:30pm in the ArtsConnection/High 5 building in Manhattan (8th Ave and 36th Street).

Just as in our Fall and Spring TRaC programs, Summer TRaC workshops will include debate and discussion about the show, writing activities, an opportunity to publish your work and whatever else participants bring to it!   (If you’ve ever wondered what the 8-week TRaC programs in the fall and spring were like, this is a great way to get a snapshot of the experience.)  Each session will be taught by one of the veteran TRaC Instructors, all of whom are working artists and critics.

There are five 2-day options to choose from:

Session 1 – July 29th and August 3rd
taught by Music TRaC Instructor Andrey Henkin

Session 2 – August 5th and 10th
taught by TRaC Director Eric Ost

Session 3A – August 12th and 17th
taught by Multi TRaC Instructor Eisa Davis

Session 3B – August 12th and 17th
taught by Dance TRaC Instructor Brian McCormick

Session 4 – August 19th and 24th
taught by Dance TRaC Instructor Brian McCormick

There is LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE so email your preferences in soon!  Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, and notified by phone.  Session 1 participants will be contacted in the evening on Monday, July 26. Please remember to order your session preference in your email (for example: 1st choice-Session 1, 2nd choice-Session 3B, etc).  Depending on space, you may be able to attend more than one workshop so please include as many choices as you like.  We like to encourage everyone to bring an open mind to all things art so the shows we see will be a surprise!

TRaC is back.

And better than ever!

As if you didn’t know — the spring Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) program is your golden ticket to the NYC arts world.  Far more than just an introduction, this is a unique, FREE opportunity for committed high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to spend 10 weeks going deep into NYC’s live music, theater, dance and visual arts scenes.  (Now ya’ know!)

Come together with people from different backgrounds and schools who want to explore the arts and sharpen their critical eye.  Imagine yourself and these 12 peers attending world-class performances and cutting-edge exhibitions, meeting professional artists and critics, and breaking it down in weekly two-hour workshops.  All while improving your writing!

Applications are due on March 4th.

What do you do in the TRaC program?

Just a little bit of this:

• Experience the NYC arts world with behind-the-scenes access
• Learn from high-profile professional artists and critics

• Meet like-minded peers from all over NY and NJ

All TRaC sections meet weekly for a two-hour workshop (4:30 – 6:30 p.m.) and every other week for one additional weekday or weekend outing. That’s 8 workshops and 5 shows! ArtsConnection partners with the most cutting edge and prestigious cultural organizations to bring you the best of NYC. All classes run from March 16 through May 22.   Choose from five offerings:

Visual Arts TRaC – meets Thursdays, March 18 – May 20
In partnership with The MAD Museum

Theater TRaC – meets Wednesdays, March 17 – May 19
In partnership with The Public Theater

Music TRaC – meets Thursdays, March 18 – May 20
In partnership with Carnegie Hall

Multi TRaC (a bit of everything) – meets Wednesdays, March 17 – May 19

The Toxic Avenger: The Musical (based on the 80′s classic horror movie) is a charming love story and laugh-out-loud musical comedy, featuring an unlikely hero (mutated by toxic waste into a super — albeit, horribly scarred — hero), his beautiful girlfriend, a corrupt New Jersey mayor and two guys who play… well, everyone else in the cast — bullies, mobsters, old ladies, and even stiletto-wearing back-up singers. Are you open-minded and adventurous? An arts lover? A writer, perhaps? Then you’ve got to check out High 5′s FREE Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) Program.

TRaC is an exceptional opportunity for committed high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who want to explore and experience the arts in New York City. Participants see first-hand how artists work, think and live; attend cutting-edge theater, dance and music performances; visit artists’s studios, funky gallaries and contemporary art museums; master NYC’s subway system; meet like-minded peers from all over NY and NJ; learn the art of discussion and critical writing; AND discover more about themselves! There are five 9-week sessions during both the fall and spring and special 2-day workshops over the summer. Each class is limited to 14 students and is taught by one of our veteran instructors (all of whom are working writers, critics, artists and art lovers).
